Product Details
+Exuding the unmistakable elegance of the Art Deco period, this Cartier dashboard clock is a special timepiece, sold by Dunhill in the 1930s. Transporting you back to the dawn of car travel, it is a welcome addition to the clock or fine automobilia enthusiast’s collection, for the work desk or the bedside table.
Presented in its original navy-blue leather, silk-lined box, the dashboard timer sits snugly in a beige suede recess keeping it safe and secure when not in use. Made by Cartier circa 1935 for the English market and retailed at Alfred Dunhill Ltd. in London, the piece was designed to sit on the dashboard of your car.
The case is crafted from sterling silver, while the surface is painted with glossy black lacquer, which has developed an attractive patina commensurate with its age. Overall, the piece has a sleek, rectangular shape with a flat leather back and a stepped detail on the front that is typical of the Art Deco style. It has a silvered dial with black Roman numerals, blue hands and a ‘Cartier’ signature just below 12 o’clock.
The clock has an 8-day power reserve, bridge movement, and screw compensation balance. It also has some weight to it – a practical addition given its purpose, preventing the clock from sliding around on the dash.
This is a unique style that acts as an elegant finishing touch to a classic car, and can also be displayed in the home or used as a travel clock.
If sold within the United Kingdom, this Cartier Dashboard Timer will be subject to 20% VAT.
